If fans forgot how dire things get when a team lacks a reliable kicker, they were swiftly reminded in 2023.With BT Potter gone, next up was Robert Gunn, a 3-star scholarship recruit from Florida who redshirted https://www.arizonastatesportsshop.com  the prior season. He has a powerful leg and was excellent on kickoffs, but in Clemson's devastating season-opening loss to Duke, he missed both of his field goal attempts. In the next two games, he went 1/2 and Clemson famously pulled former walk-on Jonathan Weitz back onto the team before the Florida State game.Weitz of course had an up-and-down season himself as the placekicker. He missed a critical short kick that allowed the Seminoles to come back and win. He also failed to convert a big opportunity vs. NC State that undercut Clemson's late comeback effort. Conversely, he was 3/3 against South Carolina and 3/3 against Kentucky. Clemson could have lost both of those games if he couldn't connect on those days.
